Sardinian-born artist Stef Cook created the series fine profiles to document the male students she studies with at Columbus College of Art & Design. She originally sought out to replicate a photograph through watercolor as an exercise in control and consistency. Working from photographs, Cook composed each painting to mimic the next with the goal of creating a uniform arrangement. The portraits are best paired with her series wash profiles, which alternatively relies on the models' silhouette and color to translate their identities. As both series of profiles melt back and forth from realistic into abstract watercolor paintings, the study of the men as characters becomes completely captivating.
