Brooklyn-based artist Michelle Matson creates paper structures that are anything but delicate. The sculptures feel cutting and aggressive. Layered with irony and intelligence, the work is able to act as a visual punchline when set against a naturalistic backdrop or prop, while still doing its surreal (and sometimes deeply disturbing) storytelling thing. So it makes sense that we ladies at Paper Darts love these visual stories by Ms. Matson—they are dark and humorous in all the right places.
